Wha' the--?!

I commented a while back, and my comment isn't here. Was I moderated out of existence? Of all the nerve.

Sorry I missed you when I was in country. As I hope your employees told you, I stopped in and bought a Hennequen/Heineken t-shirt from that fantastic store of yours. It seemed the perfect idea as I was going to Amsterdam a few days later. When I arrived, I put on the shirt and the reaction was less than what I had hoped. "What's henequen? Is it marijuana?" I swear I was asked that a half dozen times.

Clearly the Dutch are not up to speed on their Yucatecan history. I still love the shirt, though.

Saludos!

Well it was green and it looks like a plant so...

I don't remember ever censoring a comment, Evan! Sorry I missed your visit to the land of the pheasant and the deer!

Just an update from the news:

Turns out there are only a couple dozen actual "terrorists" in Guantanamo. The other hundreds were swept up "in" or "near" battleground areas, i.e., living in their own damned country and were kidnapped to be imprisoned in the lawlesslandia of Gitmo. Some of these innocent civilians were young boys of 14, 15, 16 years old when captured, stripped naked for months at a time, doused with cold water, chained to the floor and forced to urinate and defecate on themselves, string up by their arms until they lost consciousness, regularly beaten, subjected to blinding lights and deafening music for days on end.

If they weren't terrorists when they went in, they surely weren't filled with love for the USA on the way out.

As experienced interrogators will tell you (none of whom were permitted to be involved in the above shennanigans because they wouldn't have tolerated it), the best way to obtain information is - and always has been -- to actually gain the prisoners' confidence by being the type of person that warrants others placing their confidence in you.

Instead, the worst torture scenes literally out of the Red Chinese, North Korean, North Vietnamese, Soviet Gulag playbooks were rolled out in Guantanamo in the name of "protecting our country." What rubbish.

Turns out George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Donnie Rumsfeld ***knew nearly everyone was innocent all along.*** Officially, they had hoped to obtain "a mosaic of information" about movements of terrorists, even from non-terrorists. Unofficially, they were afraid of having their reputation besmirched.

Well, that was a job well done. I can hardly think of anyone on earth whose reputations are less besmirched that Bush, (shoot my friends in the face) Cheney and Rumsfeld.

Anyone else find it odd that Cheney spent his vice presidency hidden in "an undisclosed location" and now is popping up with disturbing regularity for self-serving interviews?

Thanks for stopping by, all. You might be interested to know that I am moving some of my political ranting off this blog and onto another one: http://elmalosorant.wordpress.com/ so as not to further contaminate the Yucatecan aspect of the original NotTheNews blog... :)
